Lesson timetable: 11:00 - 14:00 (total of 21 hours)
We will play traditional music from different regions of Greece, the Balkans, and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as works by contemporary composers that are grounded in this great family of “modal musics.”
Analyzing the theory of makam, we will discuss melodic movement and how it leads us to improvisation.
We will see which roles each instrument can have within an ensemble, and how different instruments may coexist harmoniously in this setting.
The ensemble is open to all kinds of traditional musical instruments.
A basic familiarity with the instrument is required.
Reading sheet music is preferable, but not required.
Kostas Tsarouchis was born in Patras in 1984. In 2004 he started playing the oud with Eugene Voulgaris as his teacher at the Patras Municipal Conservatory. He took lessons in Byzantine music with Sp. He has attended oud lessons with Sp. Psachos, rhythmology with Sergios Voulgaris and theory (makam) with Christos Tsiamoulis, Eugenios Voulgaris and Yannis Balafoutis and is a member of the orchestra of traditional instruments of the Municipal Conservatory of Patras since 2005. He has attended seminars in oud with Yurdal Tokcan (2005, 2008, 2013) and Haig Yazdjian (2009).
At the same time she is learning double bass with Vilen Karapetyan. He has occasionally collaborated with Ross Daly, Eugenios Voulgaris, Fausto Sierakowski , Senih Udeger, Haris Lambrakis, Nikos Paraoulakis etc.
Since 2019 he has been curating the traditional instrument orchestra +bAnda. He has participated in concerts, festivals and music scenes in Greece and abroad with Sazman Orkestar, Refa, The Halay Lamba, Rebetien,Inside Out, Chepkalo Projects , TangoRamenoi , MortisHead ,Koyaman and many others.
